Susan Kolb, M.D., F.A.C.S. graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received her medical degree from Washington University, School of Medicine. Susan completed post-graduate education in plastic and general surgery and has been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 1985. She is a founding diplomat of the American Board of Holistic Medicine, a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American Medical Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr Kolb has been in private practice in the Atlanta area since 1988 and is the founder of Plastikos Surgery Center, a holistic surgery center that incorporates many disciplines of alternative medicine and spiritual healing. Dr Gene Ang, Ph.D. has a healing practice in Thousand Oaks, California where he utilized several therapies with clients including Pranic Healing, Reconnective Healing, the Reconnection Shamanic Healing, Vortex Healing, and the 12 Blueprints: Accelerating the Evolution of the Human Energy Field. In addition he teaches seminars that focus on science, spirituality, and healing and travels throughout the United States facilitating healing sessions and workshops.
Gene was formally trained as a Neurobiologist at Yale University where he earned his doctorate in basic mechanisms of how the brain develops followed by a post-doctoral fellowship on how ultrasound can affect the developing cerebral cortex. After finishing school, he decided to step into the role of a facilitator of healing in order to help people through direct interaction. On Saturday, Dr Carl O Helvie, Host, Holistic Health Show will interview Dr.Pieter J. DeWet, M.D., M.D.(H), FAAFP, ABIHM, an Integrative Holistic Health Physician who is both a medical doctor and homeopathic doctor.
Dr. DeWet has been in private practice, practicing wellness medicine since 1997. Dr Francisco Contreras, Director, President and Chairman of the Oasis of Hope Hospital will be my first guest on the Holistic Health Show on Saturday. Dr Contreras graduated with honors from the prestigous School of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and continued his studies at the University of Vienna, Austria where he specialized in surgical oncology and again graduated with honors. He is recognized as a cancer expert who combines conventional and alternative treatments with emotional and spiritual support. In his position he oversees the treatment of 400 cancer patients annually.
He received personal instructions from his father, Dr Ernesto Contreras who was an alternative medicine pioneer. The Oasis of Hope was founded in 1963 and since then the hospital has provided integrative cancer treatment for over 100,000 patients. Dr Contreras will talk about
the outstanding success in recovery of their cancer patients that has gained a high regard for the care provided. One of the latest most notorized patients was Daniel Hauser the teen from Minnesota with cancer whose mother ran away and took him to the Oasis of Hope with the police following her.

In her book Outsmart Your Cancer: Alternative Non-Toxic Treatments that Work, Tanya Harter Pierce, this week’s guest, discusses whether or not to alkalize if you have cancer. She says this is an important question and in almost all cases the answer is yes. The rational for this is that most alternative practitioners agree that cancer cells thrive in an acidic body and in general, cancer patients are much more acidic than non-cancerous patients.
The primary way to maintain a normal pH level in your body is with the use of minerals from the diet. In an earlier blog I talked about the alkaline diet recommended by Edgar Cayce and how this was similar to the anti-inflammatory diet discussed by Dr Andrew Weil. It will be remembered that it is not the acidity of the foods that determines their effect in the body but how they promote alkalinity or acidity. For example, citrus fruit such as limes are acidic outside the body but promote alkalinity when broken down and processed within the body. In general, minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and others are very alkalizing to the body and many fruit and vegetables tend to be high in these alkalizing minerals. Thus, they are often recommended as a mainstay of the diet of a cancer patient. In an earlier blog when I talked about my cancer regime 33 years ago when I was given 6 months to live, my diet consisted of 75% raw fruits and vegetables and a limited amount of cooked vegetables but no sugar, meat, dairy, poultry and the other acid producing foods identified below from Tanya’s book.
Tanya discusses acid producing foods (meats, fish, poultry, eggs, milk, processed grains refined sugar, nuts and seeds, ice cream, chocolate and other similar foods) and alkaline producing foods (raw fruit and vegetables, sprouts, olive oil, goat cheese, stevia, molasses, maple sugar, green tea, miso and sauerkraut, herbs and similar foods). She continues to discuss optimum pH level and how to test for alkaline balance and how to alkaline, if needed. I suggest reading this or similar material on alkalizing because it is not only useful for individuals with cancer but also those with yeast infections and other bodily imbalances.

My guest on the Holistic Health show on Saturday, August 29 is Tanya Harter Pierce who has a masters degree in clinical psychology and is currently on leave from her counseling practice as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor. Tanya never thought she would write a book about cancer but when a family member was diagnosed with cancer that was considered “incurable” by conventional medicine she suddenly began searching alternative options. Over the years she had cured other chronic conditions with alternative holistic treatments so she had an open mind about these interventions. From her studies she was stunned to find so many successful approaches to treating cancer non-toxically that often had better success rates than current conventional treatments. Because this information was not easily available or understandable she wrote Outsmart Your Cancer: Alternative Non-Toxic Treatments that Work . The second edition of this book has just been published and Tanya will focus on two areas of the book in the interview: Protocel, and the PSA and Hormone Blocking Drugs as they relate to Prostate Cancer.
