Research published in Cancer prevention Research concluded that an over the counter natural remedy from honeybee hives arrest the growth of prostate cancer cells and tumors in mice. The compound, caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a compound isolated from honeybee hive peopolis, the resin used by bees to patch up holes in the hives. Researchers said” If you fee4d CAPE to mice daily, their tumors will stop growing. After several weeks, if you stop the treatment,. the tumors will begin to grow again at their original pace. ..So it doesn’t kill the cancer, but it basically will indefinitely stop prostate cancer proliferation.”

In their research, they tested the compound, CAPE, onm a series of cancer cell lines and found that at even low concentrations after oral administration, it successfully slowed the proliferation of cultured cells isolated from human prostate cancers. It also closed the growth of human prostate cancer cells grafter into mice and after six weeks of treatment, it decreased tumor volume growth rate by half, and when it was stopped, tumor growth rate continued at its previous rate.  These results are interpreted as indicating a stopping of cell division instead of killing the cancerous cells.

Researchers hypothesized that highly anxious mice would err on the side of avoiding danger. They placed hairless mice on a raised, cross-shaped track that had one walkway enclosed by walls and the other open. Then they measured how often each mouse ventured to the open track.  They also placed the mice in a box that was half lit and half dark and determined those that spent the most time in the dark side. After determining those that were more anxious and those that were not they exposed the mice to ultraviolet rays for 10 minute bouts three times a week for 10 weeks. They said this would be similar to humans who were overexposed to the sun. A few months later tumors appeared.

When comparing tumors in the low and high anxious mice they found higher levels of immune-suppressing cells or regulatory T cells that normally thwart overzealous responses, in the more nervous mice. The nervous mice were also making fewer of the chemical signals that start an immune attack on the tumors. Researchers also evaluated the hormone corticosterone which is excreted in response to the fight or flight response under stress and found this higher in the nervous mice.

The researchers plan to test this hypothesis in humans in the future.

Researchers analyzed data from the Stanford Microarray Database to detect abnormal gene expression patterns in seven cancer sited: breast, kidney, liver, lung, ovary, pancreas, and stomach. Researchers relied upon the gene HIF1A as a biomarker of the amount of molecular oxygen in a cell and all seven cancers showed increasing amounts of HIF1A that indicated decreased oxygen levels in the cancer cells.

Low oxygen levels in a cell interrupts oxidative phosphorylation- the normal high efficient way cells convert food to energy. With a decrease in oxygen, the cells switch to glycolysis to produce energy unit, called ATP. Glycolysis is much less efficient  and cancer cells must work harder to obtain even more food or glycogen to survive. The research said “When a cancer cell gets more food, it grows: this makes the tumor  biomass bigger and even more hypoxic. In turn, the energy-v=conversion efficiency goes further down, making the cell even more hungry and triggering the cells to get more food from blood circulating, creating a vicious cycle. This could be a key driver of cancer.”  Further experimental research is needed.

In light of the fact that the gallery has been in business since 1910, it is considered to be a standard in the industry and is given the utmost of respect for its integrity, knowledge and pursuit of excellence. Carl was a charter member of Sotheby’s.com (New York), and is a member of the Art and Antique Dealers League, and La Confederation Internationale De Negotiants En Oeuvres D’Art. He has served as judge for The Manayunk Art Show, co-chairman of the gallery committee member of Rittenhouse Row, guest auctioneer for WHYY, and panel member for The Art News World Art Market (New York). Carl has been involved with The Friends of Rittenhouse Square, The Free Appraisal Clinic, The Philadelphia Art Museum, The Dealer’s Committee for US Artists, and Rittenhouse Row.
Using his knowledge of the fine arts, Carl has taught “Collecting Fine Art” at Main Line School Night, and served as a guest lecturer at the Philadelphia Library, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the U.S. Artists Exhibition (2004–2006). As a philanthropist, David has used art as a backdrop to organize and produce fundraising exhibitions for the Washington, D.C. branch of the National Center For Missing & Exploited Children, the Delaware Valley Burn Foundation, The American Red Cross and The Make a Wish Foundation.

Along with his expert interest and career as an art dealer, Carl has serious involvement in both music and photography. He does all of the gallery photography work and has several photographic images hosted on Webshots.com and istockphoto.com. His specialties are atmospheric, landscape and travel always with emphasis on the beauty of nature. In years past various formats were employed, including 8 x 10, 645 (medium format), and 35 mm but today the primary modality is high resolution digital.
Having played piano at a very young age and then teaching himself to play guitar years later, Carl was part of two rock groups during his late teens. After a lengthy hiatus of several decades he has returned to his passion for music. With a mega-keyboard in his studio at home, with headphones donned, he has written nearly a dozen ballads. His first (“My Love For You”) written for his wife, was professionally mastered, arranged, and produced by the legendary Dave Appell of Decca Records and Cameo-Parkway Records. His latest song, “Loving You” harks back to the eighties soft rock mode. Several others pieces have been completed and are currently awaiting arrangement and production. When asked “What next”? he replies, “I have no idea; it just comes out when it is ready. I really have no control over it. Creativity cannot be forced; it has a mind of its own. My music speaks to me and has a vivid voice in its non-vocal instrumentation.
For many years, Carl David has had a serious interest in and has been a proponent of all aspects of healing. Of particular interest is “hands on” healing and energy work. Animals are of special love to Carl and are drawn to him as he is to them. He has worked on several over the years. It is as though he is connected to them by an invisible thread. He has woven spirituality and energy work into his daily life. As a firm believer in “paying it forward,” he knows that karmic debts must be paid, and is very cognizant of keeping a clear conscious and doing the right thing. What goes around comes around, inevitably. Life has thrown him some nasty turns, but instead of being bitter and resentful, he has tried to learn from each experience and shift his focus toward something positive.

Ron Esposito has an  extensive background in the music industry and public radio and is first and foremost a musician with nearly forty years experience playing, producing and recording.  After thirteen years, four CDs, numerous awards and thousands of miles touring with Greg Schaber & High Street, Ron’s lifelong interest in spirituality, metaphysics, philosophy and personal transformation led him down a new musical path – composing, arranging and performing the ancient Tibetan Brass and Crystal Singing Bowls.  “Open Heart” (Spiral Music 2009), his debut solo project, received critical praise, was added to the nationally syndicated radio program Echoes’ playlist and received a national Telly Award for its video.  His second solo CD, “We Are One” (Spiral Music, August 2011), takes the listener on an expansive listening adventure that’s contemplative, thoughtful and profoundly multifaceted.                     Ron’s career in the music industry began at Ohio University, where he opened Haffa’s Records and also headed up the university concert series. In a new study published in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology researchers concluded that an ingredient in oregano, carvacrol, may actually kill prostate cancer cells. The authors say that oregano has been studied previously and found to have many health benefits such as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory  properties, and some effect against breast and other cancers but this is the first study to look at its relationship with prostate cancer.  Although research is ongoing, preliminary results show that carvacrol is an extremely anti-cancer agent and eliminating almost all of the prostate cancer cells tested. The researcher said “We used various concentrations of this compund and we were happy to see that it caused complete inhibition of cell growth.”  “We did these experiements in three different time periods-24 hours, 48 hours, and 96 hours.  The drug produced almost 100 percent inhibition. but it was the most potent at the 96 hour treatment period.” Research is ongoing to find out how this is occuring.

Findings are important because many of the exposures to cadium by women  are low levels over a long period of time (chronic instead of acute).Cadium is mainly a byproduct of mining, smelting, and refining metals such as zinc, lead, and copper and rock mining to produce fertilizer. In addition, cadmium can be found in rechargeable batteries, and cigarette smoke and enters the body through consumption of contaminated food, or water or inhaled as cigarette smoke.

When combined with other studies results show that cadmium has a significant role in the development of breast cancer. The researcher says “Many of us are exposed to very low levels of cadmium from the environment on a daily basis,and our research shows that even small concentrations of this metal at [prolonged exposures can cause breast cancer cell growth.”

In the pilot study of 118 patients with different types of brain tumors, the researchers showed that micro RNA profiling of cerebrospinal fluid can be used to determine the presence of glioblastoma, the most common and lethal form of brain cancer. The micro or tiny RNA molecules are excellent bio markers for various conditions and their levels can be accurately measured in body fluids so it is a simple and inexpensive procedure. This same process could be used to detect the presence of cancer that started in another body site and spread to the brain as well as monitoring the tumor during treatment.
