On Saturday, July 18, I interviewed 5 cancer survivors pictured from left to right–Aurea McGarry, Linda Wilson, Regina Leeds, Les Thiele, and Lori Kuban .
Aurea is a 9 year Non Hodskins Lymphoma survivor who won the Mrs. U.S. Beauty of Georgia Contest in 2003 and the title of Most Inspirational Contestant. She is the creator, producer and host of the television show Live Your Legacy with Aurea McGarry. Earlier she worked on the soap opera Edge of Night. Linda had a tumor of the kidney and used alternative interventions. She and her husband have owned a rare and used book business for 25 years. She has degrees in English Literature, and Respiratory Therapy, and a Masters in Theology. She is an ordained Episcopal Minister but currently works with the Catholic Apolistic Church. Regina is a 7 year survivor of third stage uterine cancer who used traditional and alternative interventions. She is a professional organizer and authored six books including the New York Times best seller One Year to an Organized Life. More information is available at www.reginaleeds.com
Les is a 3 time ovarian cancer survivor who used complementary interventions. She talks with cancer patients several times a week and is in the process of putting up a web site. She can be reached at: (617) 834-1597.
Lori is a brain tumor survivor who used traditional and alternative interventions. She has a baccalaureate and masters degree and is a research librarian. She is also a cancer and health care advocate who speaks and provides workshops for cancer survivors and professionals including being a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. My second guest on Saturday, April 11 was Padma, one of Canada’s best know teachers of meditation and yoga. Padma writes and hosts a daily national TV series called Living Yoga with Padma and has produced instructional DVD’s. She studied in the Himalyas of India and has been authorized to teach meditation and yoga by the Director of the International Meditation Institute of India. Dr Carl O Helvie, host of the Holistic Health Show on BBS Radio (www.bbsradio.com) Station 9 will interview Padma on Saturday, April 11 at 7 p.m. PST or 10 p.m. EST (new time) as his second guest. This interview is a repeat of an earlier show on meditation and yoga because padma has been so popular on my website with the Russians and received over 60 comments from them. Padma is one of Canada’s best know yoga and meditation teachers. She writes and hosts a daily national tv series called Living Yoga with Padma. She studied meditation in the Hymalayas of India for eight years and is authorized to teach meditation and yoga by the director of the International Meditation Institute of India. She was director of the Padma and Yoga Center in Vancouver, B.C. and currently leads courses and workshops. She holds a baccalaureate degree from McGill University. On Saturday, December 6 on BBS Radio on the Holistic Health Show (Station 3) at 5 p.m. PST or 8 p.m. EST I will interview Dr Bernie Siegel and Padma. Dr Bernie Siegel who prefers to be called Bernie needs no introduction to many throughout the world. He embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of medical ethicsa and spiritual issues that society grapples with today. He originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patient drawings, dreams, images, and feelings in 1978 and retired from practice as an assistant professor of general and pediatric surgery at Yale in 1989 to speak to patients and their caregivers. In 1986 he wrote Love, Medicine and Miracles which was followed by 9 other books and another to be published in 2009-Faith, Hope, and Healing with survivors stories and his reflections about what they teach us. Bernie was one of the earluy physicians using a body, mind, spirit approach to patient care. Padma is one of Canada’s best known teacher of meditation and yoga. Shge writes and hosts a daily national tv series called Living Yoga with Padma. She studied meditation in the Himalayas of India for 8 years; mastered Sanskrit text of philosophy and is authorized to teach meditation and yoga by the director of the International Meditation Institute of India. Padma was director of the Padma Yoga and Meditation Center in Vancouver, B.C. and currently leads courses and workshops there. She holds a B.Sc. degree in Biology from McGill University, Canada. She will discuss meditation on this show and yoga on a later one.

In this show Dr Patricia Crane talks about how she first discovered the power of affirmations; how listeners can use principles to create affirmations; why affirmations do not always work; how she cured herself with chronic fatigue symdrome with affirmations and other holistic interventions; and the difference between affirmations and visualization. Dr Crane is a protege of Louise Hay and has worked with her for 22 years. Dr Carl O Helvie, your host, also talks about meditation and relaxation including the process of meditation, preparation, expected outcomes including research studies, and various types or meditation.
