In a study carried out at the University of Georgia researchers concluded that daily consumption of ginger eases muscle pain by 25%. In two studies 34 and 40 volunteers consumed capsules containing two grams of either raw or heated ginger or a placebo for 11 consecutive days. On the eighth day participants performed 18 extensions of the elbow flexors using a heavy weight in order to cause moderate muscle injury to the arm. The researchers assessed arm function, inflammation, pain and a biochemical seen in pain prior to and for three days after the exercises.
The study showed that daily ginger supplements reduced pain by 25% and the results were similar whether the ginger was raw or heat treated. More information is available at:
