Research Shows that Non-Toxic Cancer Therapy is Effective Against Metastatic Cancer.

logo1267406_mdA new study published online in PLOS ONE concluded that a combination of a nontoxic ketogenic dietary and hyperbaric oxygen therapies effectively increased survival time in a mouse model of aggressive metastatic cancer.

In the study mice with advance metastatic cancer were fed either a standard high carbohydrate diet or a carbohydrate restricted ketogenic diet. Mice on both diets received hyperbaric oxygen therapy that increases oxygen in the tissues. The ketogenic diet forces a shift from utilization of glucose to fatty acids and ketone bodies for energy and normal cells readily adapted but cancer cells were unable to adapt to this shift and were thus vulnerable to the reduced glucose available. Results showed that both therapies slowed disease progression independently and that mice receiving the combined ketogenic diet and hyperbaric oxygen therapy lived 78% longer than mice fed the standard high-carbohydrate diet. Researchers concluded “Our study demonstrates the potential of these cost-effective, non-toxic trherapiesto contribute to current cancer treatmentregimes and significantly improve the outcome of patients with advanced metastatic cancer.”
