Meditation/Yoga Reverse DNA Response Underlying Stress

Wednesday, June 21st, 2017

A new study published in the journal Frontiers in Immunology reviewed over a decade of studies  analyzing how our genes are affected by different Mind-Body Interventions and and concluded meditation, yoga and Tai Chi don’t simply relax us, they can reverse the molecular reactions in our DNA which cause ill-health and depression. Researchers reviewed 18 studies with 846 participants over 11 years and found a pattern of molecular changes that happened in the body as a result of the mind-body interventions.  Those changes benefited the mental and physical health of the participants.

When a person is exposed to a stressful situation, their sympathetic nervous system is triggered  that in turn increases production of af a molecule called nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) that regulates how the genes are expressed. KF-kB translates stress by activating genes to produce protein called cytokines that cause inflammation at the cellular level-a reaction that is useful for short term fight or flight reactions. But if this persists it lead to a higher risk of cancer. accelerated aging, and psychiatric disorders like depression.  Researchers found, however, that people who practice mind-body interventions exhibit the opposite effect-that is, a decrease in production of NF-kB and cytolines, leading to a reversal of the pro-inflammatory gene expression pattern and a reduction in the risk of inflammation-related diseases and conditions.

Researchers said “These activities are leaving what we call a molecular signature in our cells, which reverse the effect that stress or anxiety would have on the body by changing how our genes are expressed. Put simply, MBIs cause the brain to steer our DNA processes along a path which improves our well-being.” “More needs to be done to understand these effects in greater depth, for example how they compare with other healthy interventions like exercise or nutrition. But this is an important foundation to build on to help future researchers explain the benefits of increasingly popular mind-body activities.”

Sunday, March 13th, 2016

taramannMy first guests, Tara and Steve Mann, are Co-Founders, CEO and President of Cancer Crackdown. (This is a continuation of an interview started last show). Cancer Crackdown is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization, their passion is to help fighters take their battle with cancer to the next level. They are unique in that they fight alongside those battling this disease. They develop plans and help fighters and survivors to be successful in following them to reach their overall health goals. They offer a wide range of resources and encouragement for those fighting, those surviving and those that wish to prevent this disease. We all have a choice in this battle against cancer, to survive or to prevent!!
Their mission is to be the trusted source of knowledge regarding natural therapies to defeat cancer and remain cancer free. We partner with fighters and survivors by supporting and navigating them through their battle. Together, they develop a unique plan that is specific to each individual and instills in them a fearless approach to winning the battle.
Cancer Crackdown started as a small group on Facebook in January 2012 with a few people who wanted to share some information on tips and best practices during chemo. Cancer Crackdown has grown and we are now serving cancer fighters all over the world!!
Cancer fighters that can no longer take chemo or choose not to are in dire need of accurate information and guidance. Due to the vast amount of information available and many untrustworthy sources on the internet, it makes it difficult for us to make decisions about what is viable information and thus dissuades many from knowing what is worth trying. We have and will continue to research topics of interest and ensure credibility of sources. We help put patients in contact with proper practitioners in their area and locate services for them that may benefit their treatment. We are in the process of building on the services we are able to provide to cancer patients that we are so fortunate to partner with during their difficult time. More information available at: http://www.cancercrackdown.org

berenice yoderMy second guest is Bernice Yoder, a 9 year pancreatic cancer survivor. Berenice says: I will be a nine year pancreatic cancer survivor this coming November. When I found out I had cancer, I had no idea what pancreatic cancer was. It had never touched my immediate or extended family. It was something you heard of or read about, not something that happened to you.

This illness changed my life. It gave me more will to live, to be able to finish raising my then 13-year-old daughter who had just lost her dad 15 months before. It taught me to fight, and to never give up. There is always hope even through the pain and grief and anger that is part of this terrible illness. I am proud to say I am a survivor of one of the deadliest cancers

Can Yoga Lessen the Side Effects of Traditional Cancer Treatment?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2015

logo1267406_mdA new study presented at the Society of Integrative Oncology’ International Conference in Boston concluded that yoga may benefit men who are undergoing radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Side effects often experience include fatigue, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence and a decline in quality of life.

In this small study of 27 men who attended 75 minute yoga classes twice a week expressed no decline in quality of life or experienced any side effects through the radiation therapy. Researchers said “Data have consistently shown declines in these important measures among prostate cancer patients undergoing cancer therapy without any structured fitness interventions so the stable sc0res seen with our yoga program are really good news.” The researchers believe the yoga may help the fatigue and may strengthen the pelvic muscles and increase blood flow that may improve erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence. They also thought the group participation might provide a psychosocial benefit. Previous studies have shown that yoga was beneficial for breast cancer patients.

Zoe (DNA activation, Yoga, Psychic Medium) from Sweden to Be Guest on Holistic Health Show

Sunday, February 8th, 2015

Zoë[6]My guest today is Zoe from Sweden who has a MSc in Neurochemistry from the University of Stockholm and the Medical University Karolinska Insitute.
She has a career in the research field of Alzheimers disease and DNA vaccines, and she has always had a Holistic approach to restore perfect health with her clients.
Zoe is an Internationally certified Kundalini yoga teacher and healer, and works as a psychic medium.
She has also had a career in the music business, as a singer and a songwriter and competed in the Eurovision song contest. We will hear her sing one of the songs she wrote at the end of the interview.
Zoe has developed her own “concepts” BAAM, NLH and DNA activations and they all assist people in becoming totally healthy and self empowered.

I found the following information about her music on the Internet.

Zoë’s clear and soulful voice will take you to dimensions you might not have been in touch with before. Her lyrics will dress your life in an astonishing ballroom gown and her melodies are the steps of her dance in life. The basic messages in her songs are of course love, in all different forms and variations, and all the beauty and fun in life.

Zoë was born in Stockholm some 30 years ago, and started her musical career at the age of 10 at the renowned Adolf Fredrik School of Music. During her early teens she started to combine the classical training with her growing love for jazz, pop and soul music at Kulturama. At 16 she participated in the Swedish championship of Rock (Rock-SM), with the ABBA-song “Thank You For the Music”. At 21 she performed in the TV-show “Sikta mot stjärnorna” as Mariah Carey, with the song “Anytime You Need a Friend”. Wearing the largest wig ever seen! To broaden her musical views she went to the States and Berklee College of Music – a school with strong roots in jazz and soul. Filled with inspiration she went back home to Sweden and started the band SoulSurfers, playing original funky music, written by herself and the other band members. Zoë has worked with different producers along the years, both as an artist and a songwriter, e.g. Johan Åberg (Christina Aguilera) among others. During several years she worked with the producer and bass player Stefan Olsson, who produced Zoë’s songs, and 2002 she participated in the TV-show “Melodifestivalen”, which is the Swedish part of the Eurovision Song contest, with her song “Hollywood-Do”. Both “Hollywood-Do” and the following single “Stumble” were frequently played on the radio in Scandinavia.
