My guest, David Emerson says “I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in February of 1994 at the age of 34. I underwent induction therapy of 5 rounds of VAD, 2 rounds of cytoxan and an autologus bone marrow transplant, all in 1995. I relapsed in 10/96, underwent local palliative local radiation, relapsed again in 9/97 and was told “nothing more can be done for you. ”
”I underwent a “quack” cancer therapy called antineoplaston therapy (ANP) from 11/97-4/99. I reached complete remission where I have remained since. I have remained in complete remission from my multiple myeloma by living an evidence-based, non-toxic, anti-myeloma lifestyle through nutrition, supplementation, bone health, mind-body, detox. and more. I consider my anti-myeloma regimen to be a metronomic, low-dose, maintenance myeloma therapy. But non-toxic.
I am also a multiple myeloma cancer coach. Click my website to join a free webinar about the Multiple Myeloma Cancer Coaching Program that I researched and developed based on my 22 plus years living with multiple myeloma I would not be alive today if it weren’t for the Internet and The Burzynski Research Institute. I created the Galen Foundation as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and launched www.PeopleBeatingCancer.org with the mission to empower cancer survivors and caregivers through information, education and support.

The researchers say that few natural products have demonstrated the range of protective and therapeutic promise as curcumin and tumeric such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-tumor, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. However, success in translating the potential into tangible benefits have been limited by poor intestinal absorption, rapid metabolism, and systemic bio availability. A variety of approaches have begun to enhance absorption and bio availability, The researchers reviewed the bio availability studies on several commercial curcumin ingredients and evaluated them in a level playing field.
Results showed: 1) a hydrophilic carrier dispensed curcuminoid formula exhibits 45.9 times the bio availability of the standard purified 96 per cent surcuminoid preparation and, based on relative mass efficiency, 1.5 times times the bio availability of the next best commercial ingredient, a cyclodextrin complex and 2) curcumin is currently being researched and one author said “I would like to see and prehaps be involved in research on improving bio availability and it would be useful to test whether curcumin benefits can be improved or even directed through use of combination products. The article author concluded “Delivery strategies can significantly improve the bio availabilty of curcuminoids. Total formula mass is important for making practical formulation decisions about dosing, cost, and space”

HPV: A new study published in EurekAlert concluded that Curcumin, an antioxidant, found in the curry spice Tumeric, will slow or limit the activity of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), that causes oral and cervical cancer. Authors say “Tumeric has established antiviral and anti-cancer properties and according to our new findings, we could say that its good for oral health too.” The researchers first noted the effect of curcumin on HPV and cervical cancer cells in 2005 and because oral cancer rates are rising they tested the same hypothesis on oral cancer. They found that Curcumin turns down the expression of HPV in infected oral cancer cells by down regulating the level of cellular transcription factors AP-1 and NF-KB and this suggests a new potential new role for Curcumin in cancer control.

A new study reported in Carcinogenesis Today concluded that curcumin, an ingredient in the Indian spice Turmeric, stops the formation of metastases in prostate cancer. Because it is well tolerated it could be used to prevent and treat prostate cancer patients whose tumors have metastasized.
Tumor cells in prostate cancer were found to produce the cytotoxines CXCL1 and CXCL2 that are pro-inflammatory immunomodulators. In a mouse model, they found that curcumin reduces the expression of CXCL1 and CXCL2 resulting in fewer cases of metastasis. The researcher said “Due to the action of curcumin, the tumor cells synthesize smaller amounts of cytokines that promote metastasis. As a consequence, the frequency of metastasis formation in the lungs is significantly reduced in animals with breast cancer, as we showed previously, or carcinoma of the prostate, as demonstrated in our new study.” The researchers said further that “This does not mean that the compound should be seen as a replacement for conventional therapies. However, it could play a positive role in primary prevention. “Further studies are required to confirm these findings and the team is planning to carry out a study on patients with treatment resistant prostate cancer.
