Dr Carl O. Helvie, Host, of the Holistic Health Show interviewed Dr Harold G. Koenig, M.D. and Mary McManus yesterday. Dr Koenig, one of the two lead interviews on the Spirituality, Faith and Healing series is internationally known for his research, writing and lecturing in this field of practice. He is currently Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Associate professor of Medicine at Duke University and is also a registered nurse. He is founding co-director of the Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health at Duke and has published around 350 articles in peer reviewed journals, and nearly 40 books. He has appeared on over 50 national and international television programs, over 100 national or international radio programs, and been interviewed in hundreds of national and international newspapers and magazines. Ms Mary McManus is a poet, fund raiser, former award winning social worker and Boston Marathon finisher. She is also a post polio survivor who receives inspiration poetry from God. Dr Bernie Siegel opened the series on Inspirational Stories of Individuals who used Faith in Healing. The second lead for the series, Dr Harold Koenig, will be interviewed on the next show in this series.
Dr Siegel is internationally know for his work on patient empowerment, Exceptional Cancer Patients and other mind-body medicine concepts. Dr Bernie Siegel will be interviewed on the Holistic Health Show on BBS Radio Station 3 at 7 p.m. PST or 10 p.m. EST on Saturday, July 4 as part of the cancer series. For many he needs no introduction and has touched many lives all over the planet. In 1978 he started talking about patient empowerment and the choice to live fully and die in peace. His first book, Love, Medicine, and Miracles was published in 1978 and redirected his life. In 1978 he also originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patient drawings, dreams, images and feelings. On Saturday, December 6 on BBS Radio on the Holistic Health Show (Station 3) at 5 p.m. PST or 8 p.m. EST I will interview Dr Bernie Siegel and Padma. Dr Bernie Siegel who prefers to be called Bernie needs no introduction to many throughout the world. He embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of medical ethicsa and spiritual issues that society grapples with today. He originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patient drawings, dreams, images, and feelings in 1978 and retired from practice as an assistant professor of general and pediatric surgery at Yale in 1989 to speak to patients and their caregivers. In 1986 he wrote Love, Medicine and Miracles which was followed by 9 other books and another to be published in 2009-Faith, Hope, and Healing with survivors stories and his reflections about what they teach us. Bernie was one of the earluy physicians using a body, mind, spirit approach to patient care. Padma is one of Canada’s best known teacher of meditation and yoga. Shge writes and hosts a daily national tv series called Living Yoga with Padma. She studied meditation in the Himalayas of India for 8 years; mastered Sanskrit text of philosophy and is authorized to teach meditation and yoga by the director of the International Meditation Institute of India. Padma was director of the Padma Yoga and Meditation Center in Vancouver, B.C. and currently leads courses and workshops there. She holds a B.Sc. degree in Biology from McGill University, Canada. She will discuss meditation on this show and yoga on a later one.
