A new study published in the Journal of Nutrition concluded that Aged Garlic Extract can lower plaque buildup in arteries and prevent heart disease. In the restudy researchers studied the effects of taking daily Aged Garlic Extract in people with metabolic syndrome. This study, the fourth in which the team evaluated Aged Garlic Extract, fifty five patients diagnosed with metabolic syndrome were enrolled. All were between the ages of 40 and 75 and all were on the brink of developing heart disease. Researchers measured the total coronary plaque volume and calcium deposit of each subject. They also measured the levels of low-attenuation plaque and non-calcified plaque using the non-invasive imaging tool Cardiac Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) for each subject.
After dividing the subjects randomly into two groups one was given a 2,400 milligram dose of the Aged Garlic Extract while the other group was given a placebo. Subjects took the supplement daily for one year.
During follow up screen after one year the subjects who took the Aged Garlic Extract successfully reduced their accumulated total plaque by 80 percent and also lowered the soft plaque. It is noteworthy that the subjects who took the Aged Garlic Extract had less plaque during the follow up screening. Researchers reemphasized “We have completed four randomnized studies and they have led us to conclude that Aged Garlic Extract can help slow the progression of atherosclerosis and reverse the early stages of heart disease.”
